What does the ethics say? If a slide of a persons work is used in an article
or a book, can one use the work, that is photographed in the slide, for
competition or exhibition purposes again?
Thanks.

I see you are posting this again, but I still don't understand your
question fully. The slide is of your work? You took the photo and own
copyright? Then you granted a magazine or book publisher permission to
use it, but now wonder if you can still use that image? Why would you
not feel free to do so? Sorry to be so dim, but I cannot see any
reason for you even considering there could be a problem.

Unless the publisher took the photographs of your work and owns
copyright outright? Maybe you would then do well to ask for their
co-operation and use of the images for promotion.

Specific show rules on not submitting work "which has been shown
before" should be taken literally... An image of a pot in a
publication, has NOT been exhibited before! Seen: yes. Exhibited? no!
