Hi:
OK, I won't wait for all the schmoozers to return from NCECA.
This analysis was sent to me from an engineer at Bioten in Tennessee. The
analysis was done by Nichols Laboratory in Knoxville Tenn. According to
the engineer, the wood sources for this ash are Red Oak and Poplar.
Tennessee Woodash % Analysis for unwashed ash
K2O 6.12
Na2O 0.13
CaO 49.99
MgO 4.05
Al2O3 4.29
P2O5 2.11
SiO2 26.81
Fe2O3 4.58
TiO2 0.70
Molecular Wt 94.4601
Loss on Ignition 1.22
This ash is pretty high in silica so you need to factor that in for stringy
glazes. Silica will inhibit this effect. I use this ash mainly for chuns
and nuka glazes and some celadons.
happy calculating, Craig Martell in Oregon
