new kiln controller questions

Hello to all,

we got our new digital controller last friday and I made a bisque firing, did not open the kiln yet. I tried to adjust the firing to
our former one. Hope all went well. I want to make a cone 6 firing tomorrow evening. After checking the archives I now have 2
questions:

As we have three time zones for electricity prices here in germany which differ very much I have to fire within 8 hours in the
night. For bisque fire this will be no problem, even with soaking time of half an hour. Many people writing in the archives do soak
a bisque firing, but there are also some who say it would not be necessary. Do you think it would be better to soak at 950°C for 30
minutes or to bisque to a higher temperature? Until now we have done fine with soaking so I'm just interested if there would be any
difference for the pots.

Concerning the glaze firing I learned from the archives that the firing schedules of most of you differ from 11 to 20 hours. Does
this mean my 8 hour schedule is too short?
And second, could I save time in firing faster in glaze fire until the quarz melting (don't know the exact technical term, sorry)
than in bisque? I normally fire 210 min. to 600°C in bisque and glaze. I would like to use the eventually saved time to cool slowly,
as many of you suggest for better matting. Would this slowling heating be necessary a second time to let the gases come out or is
everything just burned away at the first firing?

If some of you would inform me that this is a very silly idea and perhaps also why, I would be glad to hear from you before making
bad experience. Otherwise I will try it and control with cones.

Every hint and information will be appreciated.
