Hi all.
I would like to see some pots and meet some potters. Suggestions?

Are there any of the potter's bed and breakfast places to stay in New
Zealand?
Please e-mail me if you have any good suggestions of what to see, how to see
it
and where to stay.

Also, I've found it really fun to at least buy some new tools when I travel
to
other countries. They are my souvenirs. So at a minimum, I'd like to know
of
any good shops to go to. Thanks

Well Julya, I'm a kiwi so i've got to get my two cents in for I live! :)
Nelson may be the pottery capital of NZ but up here in northland we've got
some of the best potters in the world!.
There is, Greg Barron, Toby Stafford, Peter Alger, to name a few blokes, and
among the girls there is Sandra Story, Jin Ling, Sue blumsky, and heaps and
heaps of others. If you get as far north as whangarei go down to the town
basin and look in a gallery called Burning Issues, all the people I've
mentioned have work there.
As for tools if you got out to my place I could make you some but I don't
think we have anything special in the shops!?.
If you are into beaches we have some of the most beautiful on earth about
ten minutes drive from where I live on the tutakaka coast. Ever seen what
seaweed does on pots at cone 10?.... nice!!
Im a keen wood firer and am working on a anagama/tunnel/crossdraft kiln,
have just about finished the chamber/ start on chimney soon.
So if your in Godzone you might as well come and see the winterless north.
And hey if you need a place to stay you could probably stay here!.
Cheers, Israel Dawson, in northland, where the sun is always shining
accept when its raining, or night.:)
