Hi all,
I just got off the phone with Joyce Michaud who runs the ceramics program at
Hood College in Frederick, Maryland. I registered for her Masterns Throwing
workshop being held Thursday August 1st through Sunday August 4th, 9 AM - 4
PM all 4 days. Fabienne Cassman and I are planning to do this together, and
it would be great to have other clayarters join in. I understand that these
hands-on workshops fill up quickly, so now is NOT too early to sign up.
The description of the course reads:
The four-day intensive hands-on workshop for intermediate and advanced
potters will focus on advanced throwing skills. Designed to build skills and
refine technique, the workshop will cover concepts crucial to structural
strength, including throwing exercises to increase efficiency and
master-level throwing skills. Bring your tools and 100 lbs. of the clay you
are currently using. A selection of advanced tools will be available for
experimentation.
The course costs $210 and is available for graduate credit at an additional
fee.
Joyce Michaud can be reached at: 301-696-3456
I attended a well run Lana Wilson workshop at Hood College a few years ago
and it's a very nice facility, well run by Joyce Michaud. (The workshop was
excellent as well.)
In addition, Joyce has just started an 18 credit Graduate Certificate
program in Ceramic Arts that can be completed in as little as one year or as
long as 6 years. This Masters Throwing course is one of the required courses
for the Graduate Certificate. Joyce says the program is half of a master's
degree. I see that one of her proposed visiting artists for 2002-2003 will
be clayart's Marcia Selsor to teach a course in Architectural Ceramics. If
you have interest, contact Joyce Michaud (301-696-3456) and get a copy of
the brochure.
Hope to entice other clayarters to join us.
Bonnie
