I don't know if there's a way to explain to a man about physical
vulnerability; I have never feared for my material possessions but when
you are a woman - even a serious, bad-ass, whip-your-weight-in-wildcats
woman, you learn from very early on to walk on the lighted side of the
street, and always know where the shadows are...

I am no shy little thing. I did my folkore thesis research in logging
towns where the only other women were hookers, and camped alone in a
tent. I spent time with some pretty rough tugboat men, and moonshiners
in the carolinas, and coon hunters... but I'd have to admit that my
fearlessness was part bravado and part packing a "smith and wesson" --
the ultimate in feminine protection ;0) I know that doesn't fit well
with the earthy-granola mom thing, but you'd be amazed how many good
stories you can hear from retired loggers and such at small Oregon town
gun clubs... and everybody in town knows by sundown not to go messin'
around that college girl's campsite. Though I often woke to find some
logger had left me a stack of firewood... The truth is, those
rifle-rack, "redneck" guys wouldn't even CUSS in front of me once they
found out I was "a lady"... but they always warned about the ones you
had to look out for.

Yours, Kelly in Ohio.. getting her evening clayart fix... NCECA folks
reminiscing...Arti still convinced that anyone with a clue can see God
through his pots... Vince getting lots of mileage out of the word
"obvious"... some things never change, and all is well with the world...

something just hit me on the head.

It could be another part of a Fed Ex plane that seemed to be dropping
parts out of the sky. Around here, Danville, Ca., parts landed on
several roofs of homes around here. Fed Ex people came around and
retrieved the parts, often with out owners permission, climbing onto
peoples roofs! Sounds like Area 54! Mike Gordon
