i think, for the price, or any price it is going to
be a fine wheel.

they have tried to bring in the best controller (soldner type)
with a good motor..good bearings.
and...nice powder paint application that will last forever.
removable head.
and some other things i like.

it is the right price.
so, you make up your mind.
i have not been shipped a wheel as yet.
mid april they will be in transit..i hope.

it seems that bugs are common in the axner wheel.
it is new, has to run the course. it was a big problem
to design, and may have had a premature release.

mine is running fine, but, came with a cut power and control
cord (a shipping smash). i re/wired it, have it running fine.

it has some flaws, but i am reserving total judgment and comment
until i get some more time on it. i think for the dollar value, it
is `going to be` a good wheel. it is going to take time to
work out the bugs. and, they do have to be worked out.

it does have a bit of a growl
the splash pan is cheesie (now being redesigned.)
had a chip in the paint.
howard is aware of the problems...very.
he will have to make them right.
it is a difficult process.

I am looking to buy an electric wheel, one that i can
be sure will last quite a while. Naturally it has been
suggested that the Brent model C would be a good
choice, but the cost is somewhat prohibitive. I was
also told that the Axner wheels (particularly the
Model 600)were comparable to the Brents in performance
and longevity, though this person had never tried
them.

My question does anyone use this wheel that could give
me a little more input based on their experience or
even tell me of another comparable wheel. I would like
to find one that will last indefinitely for the most
reasonable price. Thanks

Hi Scott.

I have the Axner 900. Same as 600, but bigger motor. Seems to be well
made. Splash pan doesn't stay in place well, and the belt system is not as
smooth as it could be. But I think it is a very sturdy system, with
excellent electronics. Bottom line is they are relativly NEW. Still, the
price is very good. Only time will tell. Also I believe that Howard Axner
will stand behind his product.

Well, Scott, I have not used the Axner wheels, but I ahve been using a new
Campbell's wheel...made by Thomas Stuart, it's comparable to the Brent C.
It will center about 40 lbs, and there's no appreciable slowdown at all.
Campbells is also introducing a heavy-duty version of this wheel, one that
will center 60 lbs or more. This should be ready to go around about
Christmas. These wheels are designed similar to the Brent in configuration,
but with a slightly smaller footprint and a lift-off wheelhead and
splashpan.

The price is much better than Brent as well, starting at around $875. If
you're interested, e-mail me or give me a call at (703) 750-9437.

i have one of the first off the line axner wheels.
i bought it...it was not a gift.

it has run very well. some things to note...

from the first wheels..changes:

the cheesy splash pan has been more than
upgraded.
the wheel head is better.
a bit more power.
all in all, construction is better.
i love the head removal system..but,
i may curse if high school kids start taking
it apart and losing the bolt.
but, they are cheap and replaceable. (remember to grease it
at replacement time.)
the packing and shipping is much better.
(i reported on broken wires...)
all in all, i am more than pleased with the wheel.
and, for the price...a dandy wheel.

i take nothing from vendors. as i told howard, `if
i take anything from you, and do not pay for the wheel,
i would feel obligated...i may hate it, and have to tell
the truth.`

there are some fine wheels being produced.
often better than the potters using them.
the willy wheel is an outstanding wheel...
the stuart wheel is a horse...does not bog down.
of course the soldner is a rolls royce. but it can
be bogged down. not totally powerful. yet, a great
wheel.
no one will be disappointed with the brent.
most wheels today are built to a pretty good standard.
the parts are industry standard. computer chips are
standard and inexpensive. so, pick one, use it like
mad....rarely see anyone wear out a wheel. they want
new, like cars, but most old ones still make pots. and, in
the hands of a good potter...great pots.
mel
simple cleaning, care of brushes, most wheels
will last your lifetime.
schools, well, same thing...but most are abused
like mad. and often, the folks in charge do not
know what to do....so it is double damage.

Hi,
I have only used and bought old style Shimpo's and new Brent CXC's. I
like the Brents, the Shimpo's still run but its a personal preference. I
wish Brent would include a "clear, concise pamphlet on how to fix
things" like - the pedal, adjust the belt, how to identify noises and
fix them, instead of having to call the 800 line. Seem it would save
everybody a lot of time. Mike Gordon

yes, i have one, and like it.
it is a good wheel, and like several other
new wheels in production, including the bailey
and pacifica, they are doing a great job.

i got one of the very first axner wheels. purchased
by me, to test it. it was fine, but it needed just a
few tweaks...they have been added to the new wheels.
as a favor to me, axner called in that first wheel at his
expense, and sent me one of the upgraded wheels.
that was a very nice gesture. (as that early wheel would
have served me well for years to come.)
but, then, he is a nice human being.

Mel,
I have the 1.5 horse 900. The "PROTOTYPE". The first one shipped. Will
you please share with us what "tweaks" and "upgrades" your new wheel has
compared to the earlier one? Howard sent me lots of parts and pieces over
a few months for upgrading, as well as a worthy discount, still it would be
probably good for me to try to keep up to date on the progress. Thanks.
