I am going to test following recipe from archives without Gerstly B. and
subbed 3124 one for one in Insight. How close do you try to match recipes?
With this small amt. of GB it might be this easy to eliminate..any
suggestions or comments?

Chris,
I have not yet tried to sub with Frits 3124, or 3134. I DID use Gillespie
Borate on a one-for-one substitution, with excellent success. Being
somewhat of a radical, I tend to ignore the few hundredths of a percent in
calculating the glaze. Ask yourself, does the glaze really need to be that
exact? Or can I reasonably try this one out and use it if it proves to be a
reliable glaze?
I am going through these "growing pains," doing substitutions for Jordan
clay, Albany clay/slip, colemanite, gerstley borate, and a bunch of other
materials that are no longer economicaly available.
As always, TEST, TEST, TEST! I sometimes that I make pottery to sell only
to support my evil testing habits. :o)
Best of fortune. Play Dirty!
