Sorry to be a nuisance and off-topic, but I have a serious retrieval
problem. When my PC did the nasty on me earlier this year, I saved all
my e-mails in their folders by zipping them to disks. No, I did not
"export" them using OE, I just zipped them straight from Explorer to
floppy disks. I naturally imagined I could retrieve them from those
.dbx files and re-install. straight into the reinstalled OE folder in
Windows. (I had been swapping them from one hard drive to the other so
why not from disk?). But you guessed... My supposition was completely
WRONG!
All my friendly PC techie could achieve, was a folder on my desktop
which contains zillions of e-mails with just the subject line to
identify them. They were originally in several separate folders:
Clayart, CoA, Eckhard, Path Makers, private, SUCAWS, Wells-and-Spas,
etc. but he just zapped them into this one desktop folder. I can now
access individual e-mails by clicking on one in the folder or via
Explorer. Outlook Express opens and it looks like an ordinary mail. So
far, so good. However, I cannot use the next, previous or delete
buttons in the usual way. I have to close OE and open the next e-mail
in the desktop folder, which takes me through the whole process once
again.
Obviously opening around 10,000 e-mails this way is totally
impractical. Can anyone offer a solution, please?
Thanks!
