kiln shelf supports in center?

updated tue 2 apr 02

Hi: I have a Scutt 1018 with 6 half-shelves. Every time I fire, I
support the half shelf with a post at the center of the round and half
of a post at each end.

I have not supported the long straight edge of the shelves at all.

Should I be doing this? My pieces are not very large and not very
heavy.

Your loading procedure sounds like an excellent idea (positioning
posts near the walls and away from the center of the kiln). Your
method places most of the weight of the kiln load close to the kiln
stand, and away from the unsupported kiln center.

NO! Shelves are best supported by three points, just
like you've been doing.
