As far as I'm concerned, your best bet would be to get
Vince Pitelka's book,
Clay: A Studio Handbook
ISBN: 1-57498-090-4
He covers most aspects of the studio, equipment, and running of, and describes how to make several pieces of equipment to save big bucks.
He doesn't tell you which wheel or kiln to buy, but tells you pretty well everything else about them.
