Dear Bruce,
I recall one way to see the spectral colour of Boron is to put a small =
quantity of Boric acid in an evaporating dish and mix in a little =
concentrated sulphuric acid. Then add a few drops of Ethyl Alcohol and =
ignite. Do not use Borax. This has so much sodium in it the yellow will =
more than probably obscure the colour.
If you can get hold of the tables of Spectral Lines or Wavelength Tables =
( Massachusetts Institute of Technology) you will find that many =
elements emanate light in the green sector (490-580nm)of our visual =
perception.
I wonder if those who substitute Strontium for Barium notice a change =
from Apple Green to Red when the reduction flame burns at the spy hole =
or out of the stack?
All the best,
Ivor
