By far the best saw for cutting an IFB (at least that I have used...) is a
cheap (!!!) bowsaw, the ones used for cutting tree limbs. The aggressive
tooth design means lots of wear time, plus the blades are cheap to replace.

For smoothing where you just cut, use any rough concrete surface, the kiln
builder that I know uses a 12" square patio paver

For unusual custom shapes go down to the hardware store and get the biggest
meanest wood rasp that they have, it will have a flat side and a curved side
and 1/4" teeth all over it...this puppy will eat soft firebricks all day and
still be looking for more when the day is through. A good second choice,
that won't last near as long is the sureform tool. It will eat bricks just
as fast, just not as long.
