adjusting electronic kiln controller

I have a new ConeArt kiln with a 3 zone Bartlett electronic controller.
The bottom zone underfires by almost a cone, despite elements in
the kiln floor.

After reading the manual, I figured out how to adjust the bottom
thermocouple to read low, thereby forcing the bottom set of
elements to fire hotter, and correct the underfiring. This seems
to be working, but it leaves me uneasy.

The bottom thermocouple now reads 30 degrees LOW. So when
the other thermocouples read room temperature (65), the bottom
thermocouple reads 35. If I ramp everything up to 200 degrees
and hold, is the bottom section of the kiln at 200 degrees, actual,
or is it 230? You can see how this could be a problem!

Is there a better way to correct for the underfiring in the
bottom zone?

Thanks,

Bob

Adjusting the thermocouple offset in the bottom zone is probably
the best way to even out the heat distribution in your new kiln.
The cooler bottom section is probably due to the bottom
thermocouple being out of sync to begin with.
