I agree whole heartedly!!! Tongs definitly don't have to be pretty to
work well. I've got a big pair of homemade tongs that I use to lift larger
pieces for raku. Ugliest darn things you've ever seen. Blacksmith friends
who have seen them are horrified. But they work great. Have at it, just
like Tommy (does he really not have any back pain after twenty years of
potting?) Humphries says.

Here you stand, your rusty, weak, unstable tongs in hand shouting into the
darkness. You know what you want...you can see it clearly in your minds
eye, now is the time for you to take action. Get out there in the shop with
a pair of clippers, and your tongs, and mate them. YOU be the creator, make
the tool you always wanted. It doesn't need to be pretty, as long as it
works...If everyone waited for someone else to make the tools they need,
there would never be any new tools made! Perhaps if your new tongs are good
enough, you could create a market for them, and become rich...naaa, not rich
just the hero of those who rely on tongs for glazing.
