Weekend Workshop May 3 - 5, 2002
Featuring Malcolm Wright
Presented in Collaboration by the Newark Museum and the NY/NJ Academy of
Ceramic Art in Jersey City
Join master potter Malcolm Wright for a weekend of demonstrations and
discussions relating to the eastern and western aesthetics of his pottery.
His professional work has combined the traditions of the East with Western
experimentation to create a uniquely individual approach that merges hand
and mind with art and craft.
The workshop starts Friday night at the Newark Museum with a slide
presentation, a tour of the exhibition: Shaped with a Passion: The Carl A
Weyerhauser Collection of Japanese Ceramics from the 1970's and a welcoming
party.
Saturday and Sunday will be spent at the studio facilities of the NY/NJ
Academy of Ceramic Arts in Jersey City where a range of technical, aesthetic
and philosophical matters regarding both wheel-thrown and hand-built vessels
will be covered. Mr. Wright will speak extensively on his background, life
experiences and provide a wealth of information so come prepared with
