Don't know if it's the best, and there's always the question of 'best for
what?' but there's Corey's -- an offshoot somehow of a company whose day
job is supply of electrical and lighting products. Miller clays (Laguna
east clays), commercial glazes (but I don't think any raw materials),
tools, kilns, wheels, slab rollers, jewelry findings, clock parts...

South of Boston:
Corey Electric
87 Messina Drive
Braintree, MA 02184
1-781 848-2772

Way west of Boston -- near the New York border -- is the real deal,
Sheffield, http://www.sheffield-pottery.com/, including interesting blends
of Mass. clays.

Bob,

I am going to be in Boston(traveling from Halifax to Boston actually) nex=
t
week. Can anyone recommend the best pottery supply house in that area?

There are only two "pottery supply" places in the Boston area that I know=

of. Or at least that my feeble brain is remembering right now . One =
is
Ceramic Supply of New England.... which handles mainly the Standard
Ceramics product line, and Corey Supply that handles mainly Laguna stuff.=

New England Ceramic is run by an all female team....headed by .... ASH, o=
f
course ........ and they are REALLY nice people. They're on Armory
Street in Boston, and the phone is 617-445-5560.

Unfortunately, Corey Supply I have found to be weak on the customer servi=
ce
aspects. They are in Braintree, 1/2 hour south of Boston proper.

BTW........ if you are in Boston there are two good places to see some
killer pots that are almost right next to each other on Newbury Street...=
.
the gallery district. The Pucker Gallery has a great selection (rooms fu=
ll
- upstairs) of ShimaokaTatsuzo, Brother Thomas, Phil Rogers, Franz Frank,=

Onda yaki, general African, and so on. Near the Pucker is Tokai
Gallery.... which handles Japanese pottery from many different sources an=
d
also a few accent things like textiles and wood. The interior of Tokai i=
s
gorgeous..... feels like being in Japan.

There are numerous other galleries on Newbury Street also. Worth the tr=
ip
to go just "wander" the street.

Have a safe trip.

Best,

..............................john

PS: Assuming you're driving..... you'll be going right by Portland, ME o=
n
your way. Portland Pottery Supply is a pretty large one too.
