Hi all
Spent an evening, a FULL day (9-9) and finished up with a half day on =
Saturday attending a workshop with functional potter Elmer Taylor. The =
workshop was hosted by David Dahlquist at his Des Moines, Iowa studio, =
Dahlquist Clayworks =
http://www.culturalaffairs.org/iac/rosterpublicart/dahlquist_d.htm.
Taylor, who along with ceramic sculptor Jerry Austin head up the =
ceramics program at the University of North Texas at Denton, =
concentrated on throwing, completing 35 vessels during the workshop. He =
brought a number of finsihed examples of his work, demonstrated and =
talked about his throwing and decorating methods, his period of =
apprenticehip with Michael Leach in England, his teaching career, =
hunting, fishing, his three hunting dogs, and numerous other topics that =
no only gave the participants lots of ideas and renewed enthusiasm to =
take back to the studio, but also made for a thoroughly enjoyable =
experience overall. I thoroughly recommend him as a workshop presenter =
for functional, cone 10 reduction-fired pottery.
Those who are interested in well-crafted and nicely decorated functional =
pottery can see examples of Mr Taylor's work at the URL link below, or =
see the feature article in the September, 1999 issue of CM.
