Friends,

A few months ago I posted to CLAYART my kudos to Axner for taking the
initiative and making the investment in bringing back into print important
books that have gone out of print. By doing this they are serving our
community in a wonderful way.

Recently Axner posted a list of books that are now available and that are
going to be available. Of those new titles it is important to note that
"Fire
Marks: A Workbook on Low-Temperature Smoke Firing" by Cheryl Herr-Rains is
not out of print but currently alive and well!

Steve,
While it is true that some retailers still have copies of the original
printing of "Fire Marks" by Cheryl Herr Rains, Cheryl has run out of books
for any future reorders. She has contracted with Gentle Breeze Publishing
for her book to be reprinted and it will soon be released, with a new cover,
as part of the "Classic Pottery Book Brought Back" series.

As a visual person, I remember my book collection by the cover images when
trying to remember if I already own a title, and in recent years I have
been angry to find the books I owned reissued with new covers where I
invertantly bought a second copy to my chagrin.I think if the reissue has a
new cover that on the fly leaf a photo of the old cover with the reissue
information should be obvious.

I am a visual person,  but I got to the point that I have so many
books and magazines that I finally gave up, and using appleworks I made
a data base to list all the books that I have. (well, just the art related
ones) and I printed it out alphabetically by author and then alphabetically
by title.  it took me a few months to get it done,  a few books
every day.  but I have been accumulating books for 30 years.
and yard sales and used bookstore are just as much a weakness as hardware
stores.  But the good news is that  this is the first year that
I went to NCECA and didn't buy a book or magazine that I already owned.

if you can't create your own data base, there are a lot of share ware
ones out set up to catalog libraries.  it would be worth $25 or 30
for a program to do this.

Millie in Md.    I have substituted at the high school
for  4  days this week,  now I remember why I no longer
teach full time.  I am so tired.  and the kids at this school
are so easy to work with.
