fast firing damp pots

I have fired damp pots by turning them upside down or on their side or
raising them off the shelf with small posts. Also putting them around the
outside of the shelf closer to the elements is good too. However NOTHING
works on damp Soldate clay. I try not to put it into the kiln until it has
been on top of the kiln during a firing to make sure it is dry!!!!! I think
it just likes to blow up!
When my daughter was in high school the art teacher knew her mother was a
potter so she got to load all the kilns, sort of a work study deal. All the
years she did the kilns most of the pots survived as she knew not to put wet
pots in the kiln or what to do with slightly damp pots.
