I thought this may be of interest to some of you, especially those who
are exhibiting artists and/or gallerists. Although there will be
national differences, I have no reason to suppose it would not be
similar (statistically) to elsewhere in the west. A poll/research
showed the following preferences among consumers...

FAVOURITE ART STYLE OF THE PAST CENTURY
Pop Art 18%
Contemporary Art 14%
Abstract Expressionism 14%
Surrealism 10%
Cubism 3%
None of the above 28%
Don't know 13%

I am quite surprised at the 10% score for surrealism and it makes me
wonder what the age:sex ratio was of those questioned. There was sadly
no other information available, such as socio-economic banding, etc.

Another interesting item of information: According to a survey of home
owners across England, Scotland and Wales, small art galleries in a
neighbourhood rank as fifth in their list of key indicators of an up
and coming area. The survey carried out for Virgin One, also polled
estate agents, who rank thriving and trendy retail as one of their top
10 signs that an area is desirable.

THE UP AND COMING INDEX:
1 Trendy bars and restaurants
2 Brand names moving in
3 A good quality bookshop
4 arrival of property developers
5 small art galleries
6 a good cappuccino

I guess it is time we started selling cappuccino in The CoA!
