Ivor / Don,

Secondary air is necessary for burning if temperature is to rise. =

Hate to be a little nit-picky ..... but this comment is true ONLY if a=
ll
the air necessary for (stoichiometric or on-ratio) complete combustion ha=
s
not already been supplied as primary air AND if the total BTU input being=

realized by partial combustion occurring is equal to or less than the tot=
al
BTU's of accumulated heat losses. =

If you are running 100 percent primary..... you don't want ANY secondary
air. If that is the case....you are just dissipating the heat energy int=
o
a larger volume of gases. If you are already generating more BTU's out o=
f
the partial combustion from incomplete primary aeration than the kiln is
losing through all possible losses.... then it will still climb without a=
ny
secondary air.

If a kiln has good forced air burners.... it is possible that they can be=

adjusted to run 100 percent primary...or even excess air.

Just wanted to make the point....not specifically to THIS discussion.....=

but to a general understanding of kilns. Sometimes things out of context=

can result in a "skewed" understanding in a reader who is not completely
"dialed into" the whole subject.

Best,
