Okay semi-local clay freaks, here's the deal. I have
my kiln, it is in place, and my shelves/posts arrive
Monday. I have to get the roof over it, get it hooked
up to the gasline, and get the electricians out here
(why the hell does a GAS kiln have two ELECTRIC
plugs?), and if all that happens by Friday, then this
coming weekend will be the one. If it doesn't happen,
then the one after it will work. I know someone who
may only be able to make it around May tenth, so if
that works better for anyone, that's fine. We may want
to spread this out, anyway, as I only have one
bathroom to use. Anyhow, I'm hoping for this weekend,
but it may be last minute's notice (although I
wouldn't feel too bad about using extension cords, and
going roofless, if need be...), but the propane really
does have to happen. It shouldn't be too hard. So,
that's where it's at right now. I have a big,
beautiful, shiny new kiln, and it's going to kill me
to wait. It's a good thing I'm a procrastnator, and
haven't gotten around to making any glazes yet (or
putting the chemicals away, or labeling them...),
because I'd be tempted to fire up the second the gas
guy leaves otherwise. Right, so, bring swimsuits, your
favorite bug spray (my new perfume is DEET; really
penetrating, and certainly makes a statement),
sunscreen, whatever food or beverages you want to
contribute (I'll have some stuff, but you might want
to add some personal favorites). I can make chicken
cacciatore, but let me know if you're a vegetarian,
because I can make it with tofu as well. Please make
sure your bisqueware is intended for a cone ten
firing. Though I didn't get the Advancer shelves I've
been drooling over, the big nasty clunky ones I did
get are brand new, so I will have to seriously wound
anyone whose piece melts all over the place. Glaze
drips are acceptable, however. Uuummmm.... what else?
Karen and Jim Mason, I need to write personally to you
both with more info (I'll blame the heat for making me
lazy; 93 degrees here today!), and everyone else, keep
your eyes peeled on Clayart for some more valid
information as things get done around here. Sorry for
being so disorganized, but I'm quite proud of myself.
In preparation for y'all, I bought a bunch of bath
poufs, soap and shampoo/conditioner. I realize this
isn't much, but I'm really not used to being a
hostess. So, you'll be fed and semi clean, at the very
least! Jules
