"Joyce!!....You ain't lollygaggin now that mel is on his throne again =
are ya?....You wandering around out in the desert flowers?.......The =
desert and the mountains looked like that a long time...You'll have time =
to see em again...Get busy and make us some pots..."
-------------------------------------------------------
How did you know that, anyway, arti? Yes,
I've been lollygagging a bit more than usual.
I'm always looking at the desert and the mountains - most times with =
affection and admiration ..... but occasionally when it's so
windy from morning to morning (arose at 3:30 a.m. ..... hoping to fire =
..... not this morning ... AND the Balloon Festival is scheduled for =
today... was looking forward to them floating low over our place; one =
year one had a problem and landed so near to our place that it only took =
me 3 minutes to get over there; neat guys) ..... anyway, during these =
winds, I'm less than enamored and ready to move kilns and all to just =
about anywhere.
I have begun a series of projects which are waiting for me to finish =
firing all this backed-up bisque. My kilns are not huge
and I have shelves of bisque begging to be completed. I work in the =
studio every day, some days if I'm lucky for as long as 10 plus hours =
...... but I still seem to have time for lollygagging, which includes =
cooking (manybeansoup/cornbread today). If none of this last paragraph =
computes for you, it's because that's my State of Mind at the moment =
....
'bout ready to focus and complete some of those projects .... shino =
(old&new), June's green shino so I can pass it on to Karin with firing =
info; complete the other 184 teapots of the 200; Clary's workbook =
which I love in theory but it would take a lifetime to truly complete; =
extruded sculpture;
copper red/copper purple blends; raku firing; some different-for-me =
garden pots thrown/extruded/altered;
finish Jim Bowen's list of suggestions from Ian for shino; work some =
more on Hank's shinos-with-slip and quit trying to emulate his pots but =
apply it to my own;=20
finish the other 64 of those twisty mugs that I love which look like =
that wonderful Canadian potter's with the simple name that I cannot =
recall .. the ones that I thought were my invention (duh); extrude the =
tiles for Janet's path AND for plates for that raw fish which I don't =
eat ... but Linda Blossom's plate works fine for bagels&peanut butter (I =
have no couth); WORK on Kurt's fumed salts with some consistency. ALL =
of these projects AND MORE are Very Important to me, Very.
Do you see why I have no time to sell? I do work with the micro-mini =
wheel AND continue to make "small" plates on the wheel .... they're =
looking pretty good, too, as well as growing a bit in size .... I do =
these almost daily ... just a few of each to get started.... the plates, =
that is. The micro-mini requires more concentration so those days =
that's all I work on. Well, that and lidded jars which I hope will segue =
into better teapots.=20
I'm leaving out A LOT. AND I'm not even=20
ashamed of my willynilly all-over-the-map
style of working/learning. Claybuds have convinced me that, after two =
careers of
responding to a bell schedule, that's enough. During those years, if I =
didn't hold it together and remain pretty totally focused, all hell =
would break loose. There IS this other-side-of-the-brain that I'm hoping =
to develop as well as the attitudes
and lifestyle that come with it ... and the wardrobe, of course (shallow =
but fun); Jonathan's little book of Zen helps there, too, thank you, J =
..... but I NEED to find that little book by the old lady who lives by =
the river ..... metaphorically as well as literally ..... I have the one =
by the old lady who moved to Happy Camp, in northern California, during =
her 70s or 80s .... love that one... took a pilgrimage to Happy Camp one =
year just to see the possibilities for myself.....
