Congratulations to the Greater Lansing Pottery Guild on being there for 33
years.

Our guild the Arrowsmith Potters Guild ( www.arrowsmithpottersguild.bc.ca)
has been alive for going on 7 years now and growing. We are on Vancouver
Island (on the Wet Coast of Canada). It is interesting that your Guild is
33 years old which is about 1/3 the time that our whole area is in age (the
settled time that is).

We are not certain how old the culture is on our Island as the scientists
keep finding older and older artifacts of our 1st nations peoples.

Good luck with your sale! We'll be cheering for you!

The greater Lansing (Michigan) Potters' Guild spring show and sale will be
held this week beginning Thursday, May 2, 5:30 pm - 9pm We are also
open Friday 9 - 9 and Saturday, Mar 4 9 - 4pm.

The sale/show will be at All Saints Episcopal church, 800 Abbott Rd East
Lansing; we will have probably over 3000 clay objects
available, representing the works of 29 members and visiting potters.

Pots fired in high fire reduction, oxidation, low fire salt, raku and
our new salt/soda kiln will be presented.

Clayarters finding themselves in central Michigan are next week...please
stop by and say hello!!

Our guild is now in its' 33rd year; 7 current members were among the
original who had the foresight and bravery to start our guild...and see it
grow to the successful organization we are today!

Judith,

I grew up in Howell, lived in Williamston & Lansing & my family still live
all over that area. At the end of this week or early next week I'm moving
from Delaware to Muskegon to live with my brother & sister-in-law. I had
planned to make pots & sell them from my little studio here at the beach,
but
as hard as I work & as much as I love clay, I don't have the speed or
knowledge required to live by it in this location.
When last I lived in Lansing (mid 70's), my friends boyfriend was in the
ceramics program as MSU and made beautiful pots. I was facinated by clay
even
then & it was to be another ten years before I got my hands in it. Really
gladdens my heart to see this post.
My intention is to find an apprenticeship or formal ceramics program with
grants & scholarships and I'm encouraged to see clay is alive & well in
Michigan. I must learn.

Patti,,,welcome back to Michigan....I don;t have to warn you of our
winters!!!

(Actually, I grew up near Phila off Rte 1, not too far from Delaware)

There are a lot of potters around here...in addition to our guild, there
is another cooperative called Clayworks...about 5-6 years old and a bunch
of non-affiliated potters. I know there's a guild in Grand
Rapids (although I don;t know if they actually have a facility)....there's
one in Ann Arbor (50 years and going strong), and one in Ypsi....and I'm
sure lots of others...I don;t know about the Muskegon area...you might
want to get in touch with the MPA (Michigan Potters Association)...I
suspect someone there would know!

Making a living as a potter has to be extremely tough...I know of several
who do, but it isn;t easy...(I don;t have to tell you that!!!)

I'm a retired social worker...my pension et al pays the bills....

I am strictly a hobbyist, and my 'work' is simple....mugs, bowls, that
sort of thing...we do have many many extremely talented potters in our
guild....I'm not one of them. I'm simply one of the noisiest

good luck

when you've moved and settled, if you'd like a tour of our guild, just
let me know!!
