Farmers also "tile" their fields,,
They use those big coils of perforated black tubing now but in years past
they used ceramic "tile" buried in the ground these clay tubes allowed
water to soak thru into the tile then was carried to a nearby drainage ditch
or creek.
Those of you in dry country may have never heard of such a thing,, but here
on what once was swampy prairie ground this is the only way to get it dry
enough to plant it to corn,, and believe me we grow enough corn to feed all
the cows, pigs,& hungry people of the world,, and still enough to fire a few
solid fuel kilns...

Clay sewer pipe sections are called 'tiles'.
