Dear Mel Jacobson <>

You say <elbow should be planted against the left thigh.>>

Tell me Old Man, I have taught in school studios where there were high =
wheels as well as sit down to throw wheels. Do I have to make the kids =
into contortionists so they can use the former? Do you recommend that =
students should only be taught to use the sit down wheel so that they =
can conform to your style of working?

And what is your message in this posting to those, who on this list, =
have extolled the advantages of throwing in the standing position. Are =
you telling them they are stupid?

Now, I do agree with you that consistency in drilling students to ensure =
they achieve a measure of competence or mastery in the limited periods =
available to them in a class room situation is a good way to go. But I =
doubt it is a tenable proposition to assert that the coaching tactics =
used in the sporting arena are appropriate in the classrooms of a public =
high school, unless you can guarantee identical selection and equal time =
parameters.

Best regards, thinking that a potter's ulna might make a good handle for =
a brush
