Has anyone had the experience reversing the direction of their potter's
wheel? I have a Creative Industries model HP wheel that we need to change
direction for a lefty and I would like anyone who has done that to let us
know if it is an easily accomplished task done by newbys to the task?Is
there
any reason that this might be not feasable that anyone has information
they can share with us,please? If not with this wheel tell the brand and
model
and approximatte age if you have done this yourself, thanks in advance.

I owned one of the early Creative Industries one horsepower wheels. It was
rectangular with the wheel head in one corner. I installed a second switch
on it
that reversed the current and the direction of the wheel. That was 25 years
ago
though and I can't remember how I did it. Contact the Creative Industry
people,
They are good people, I'm sure they could tell you how to do it if it is
feasible
with the newer wheels.

I've done this on two diferent wheels I have had. First was a Creative
industries with the middle size motor. This was the model with a plastic
body.
Basically all you need to do is reverse the two wires going into the DC
motor and it will run in the other direction,
This can be done (Semipermantly by just cutting the two wires that go to
the motor and reversing the connection)
You can put in a double throw , double pole toggle switch.
Best to get one with a center off position so that you won't reverse it to
quickly. That is bad if the motor is running at the time. Tends to blow
fuses or semiconductors in the controller. Always make sure the motor is
stopped when you reverse,
My Jepson wheel has a non polarized plug in the motor wires and you can
reverse it by pulling the plug apart and plugging it in the other way.
The double pole double pole switch has six terminals. You hook the supply
side of the DC to motor wires to the two center terminals. The outside
terminals are connected with jumper wires in an "X" configuration andthe
top side of the x goes to the motor. When you throw the switch the
direction of the DC is reversed.

If you do this be sure that the switch is heavy duty enough to handle the
motor current and disconnect the wheel ,etc. before working on it. You may
have to do some connecting with crimpers or a soldering iron to make a good
job of this. Best to get someone who is experienced in electrical work to
do it if you aren't.

I don't know about the model HP, but I have a Creative Industries Clay Boss.
If the HP has the same feature, it should really be a piece of cake for
anyone. Here's what the instruction sheet says:
Reversing Plug: Your wheel head rotation may be reversed for left or right
hand operation. To reverse wheel head rotational direction: Turn power off
and unplug power cord from wall. Unplug motor cord at the connector and turn
it 180 degrees and replut it. Re-plug power cord to wall, turn wheel back on
and the wheelhead will rotate in the opposite direction.
Really simple. I'm a lefty, but I decided to learn to pot with the wheel
going counter-clockwise. Why not contact the company and ask them if the HP
works the same way; if so, you're home free.
