firebox grate

I can't think of any reason why he should take the grates out while they
are hot, except if he has to clam up the holes after the firing. If
this is the case, use some old clay slurry covered newspaper and cover
the places where the metal rods are inserted. It might take a minute
more but safety is everything. Then clean the rods when they are cool.
