Dear Becky,
I use the GDC glazes all the time in my majolica, and I have let the
children use it to paint the odds and ends the make with me. I have
not been happy with the results on greenware or bisque without the
white "under" glaze. The colors tend to wash out and some of them
tend to create an odd texture. Amaco says they can be used as
underglaze but they don't work as well as the velvets.
There is a commercial series of underglazes called "one stroke" that
work exceptionally well on greenware. I had a clay buddy in a
workshop that used them to create the most fabulous tiles, he made
watercolor looking wildlife scenes. I beleive " one strokes" are made
by Duncan and available at some of the larger craft stores.I could be
mistaken about the manufacturer. I haven't purchased any myself, I
borrowed his!
