outdoor electric kiln

I've my electric kiln outdoors set on a kiln pad that I had built with a
roof
overhang above the kiln.
I live at 7,700 ft, in the mountains where we get very cold temps in the
winter (Oct-May) I will be honest and say that I have not noticed any
temperature loss due to outside temperatures below zero. My kilns take the
same amount of time to reach temperature whether it's winter or summer.
And no, you do not need any kind of vent when the electric kilns are
outdoors. My kiln pad is basically like a large porch, with only one
wall(the studio it is attatched to)
The outlet is five feet above the ground and this prevents any rain or snow
from getting to it. I have no problem with wind affecting it, and we get
incredible winds here.
I prefer kilns to be outdoors because I hate being around fumes of any sort.
That's my experience, I hope it helps.
