For the folks that live in the Washington, D.C. metro area - I called
around to a few propane dealers to find out cost of installing new
valve in propane cylinders. Most quoted $25 + labor. I found one,
Fairfax Propane (703-352-5777), that replaced the valve and
re-certified my 30# cylinder for just $25.
The guy prefers an empty cylinder, said that the new valve was not
required yet in Virginia and that re-certification for cylinders
applied only to commercial use. So, I didn't need to have it done,
but using the propane tank in a school situation - better safe than
sorry.
I also found new 30# tanks are running $68. Anybody in the D.C.area
find them cheaper?
