Chris:

I use http://www.your-site.com . It is only $5 per month (when you sign up
for a year). They support FP2000 Extenstions (don't know about 2002), cgi,
perl, java, PHP, etc. 50MB Storage and 6 Gig transfer per month. MySQL
support is an additional 3.95 per month or $40 per year. Overall it seems
pretty reasonable for the features and for hosting a small site. The site
FAQ answers most questions about their service.

I have used them for about 4 months now and not had any problems. You can
see my hosted site at http://www.garyrferguson.com as an example.

If you decide to sign up and wouldn't mind entering my name in the "Heard
About Us" box, I get a small credit to my account.

Thanks,
Gary Ferguson

Hello

I am about to host my new and improved web site on a real web host. I am
wondering if anyone has any good advice or suggestions as to a good web
hosting provider. I have looked around and found a few, but would like some
feedback from people who have been using a host and are pleased. My main
criteria are:
Need Front Page 2002 extensions, and no ads. I don't want a freebie site. I
need one that has all the bells and whistles.
Thank you,
Chris Jones

Chris:

I use Burlee. www.burlee.com. I've been using them for over 2 years for
hosting 4 sites. You can check out one of them at www.rice-family.org.
Burlee has, as do the others that were recommended, all the bells and
whistles. Their basic plan is about $14 per month, but right now if you sign
up for a year you get 15 months for the price of 12. Includes unlimited
storage space and transfer.

But the reason I'm so very sold on them is their absolutely fantastic tech
support. Because I don't have a phone out here in the jungle (I use a
wireless satellite connection), I do all my tech support contact by email.
Invariably I have an answer within 2 hours, and always top-notch info. Easy
to keep a dialogue with the support team going all day. So depending on how
important you think tech support might be for you, you should at least take
a peek at them.

I use www.stargate.com. Inexpensive and terrific customer service and
support. =20

They support Microsoft Frontpage extensions and cgi scripts. They
explain everything in plain english and put it all in writing, so I
can refer back to it. I pay $6.95 a month. Very very happy with
them.

I've been using ipowerweb (www.ipowerweb.com), and have been really
pleased. They're rates are $8 per month, and no setup fees.
Maintenance of your site is by using any FTP client, and they support
Microsoft Front Page to make site construction really easy.

there are some really inexpensive, do it yourself
hosting sites.

i use this one: http://www.justhost.com/
and, godaddy is fine and dandy. just host is almost free.

i just did a site for my dog breeders. i think it took an hour.
if all you want is a web presence, don't spend
a thousand bucks.
do it yourself.

i know, i take money from the mouths of designers, but
i don't have others write my books, take my pictures, or
movies.
i learned to do those things myself.
and, i learned ftp years back, it is the key. filezilla. and, i have an
old copy of pagmill. still use it. and, a couple of web designers said:
`if it works, keep using it, don't upgrade for fun.`
up to you. my web site costs me $00.00, and i know it is not
sophisticated, but it serves my purpose. it is a school blackboard.
information on, information off, change it all in ten minutes.

My fifteen-year-old son just registered his domain name and paid for a
year of hosting on GoDaddy for $50. He's proud to be paying for it
himself. It gives him a sense of pride and ownership.

I have my site hosted there and the sites of a few friends who I
created sites for.

Just be aware that the templates for godaddy, fatcow, and probably
more WILL NOT work with a Mac. I signed up for fatcow, and after
many, many email, live chat and phone conversations with tech support
in which they assured me it would work, finally one of the tech people
went home and tried it on his Mac. When he could not get it to work,
he asked one of the engineers at fatcow, who finally admitted that the
templates will not, and cannot, work on a Mac.

An acquaintance of mine uses it a lot to build sites for his friends.

We use IX Web hosting. I don't know about their templates since we =3D

I like Mel's approach. I like to learn and do everything myself. Web
design is one of my hobbies. I've learned most of what I know through
research and trial and error. I create HTML/CSS sites with dreamweaver and
integrate wordpress for a blog. I like to have complete control over my
site so that's why I do it myself.

I use godaddyD08AF5A7A59AD94D3C22BAABE84C5084BEEAB34D5>for
my domain name registrar and haven't had any trouble with them.

I've used two different hosting companies.

2GB Hosting offers a plan whi=
ch
is only $12 per year. I haven't had any problems running a small website
including a wordpress blog but I've read some reviews with some complaints.
I've used their live chat and support tickets to take care of some minor
issues but I've never had to call customer service.

I've also used Quality Host Online whic=
h
offers plenty of features. I got in on a special deal a few years ago so I
only have to pay $18 per year for less bandwidth/storage but it looks like
their cheapest plan now is $3.95 per month. Everything has gone very
smoothly so far including a wordpress blog.

I've also tried a few free services. I've signed up for an account and
started a page to try the tools but haven't tried to run a full site. This
is what stuck out to me (from memory a few months ago).

yola.com - no ads. Link to yola at the bottom.

weebly - pretty nice blog feature. No required ads. Link to weebly at the
bottom of pages.

webs.com - ads are required. Tools seemed to be a little bit more
complicated.

wetpaintcentral - more community oriented - discussions, members, etc.
Required ads and footer.

Paul, does anyone know why the templates don't work on a Mac? That seems
kind of strange. I've heard some Mac devices don't support flash for
security reasons. Maybe it's a security issue?

My site, hosted by GoDaddy, was built on a Mac by a former student of mine,
so I assume the templates worked for her.

Jim,
Thanks for pointing that out. I copy and pasted the "link location" from m=
y
FAQ page and forgot they were affiliate links. I should have paid more
attention. But my endorsements were honest and from my own experience.

And on a side note, has anyone ever earned anything from affiliate links?
I've seen amazon bookstores, art supplies, and plenty of web hosting
affiliate programs but I wonder how effective they are since you can type
whatever you're looking for into google and find it in a few seconds now.
