Well, Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am so happy to report to you that the 100 Bowls of Compassion was a
complete success, to the tune of over $85,000!!!! That's $10,000 more than
we anticipated.

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would be in the atrium of
the World Bank, absolutely surrounded by beautiful pottery from all over,
giving a talk on compassion to v.p.'s and employees of the World Bank, and
even to the ex-head of the CIA!!! People were SO happy with their bowls,
each taking with them their prized possession at the end of the evening.

So many people said to me how magical the evening was, and I'm convinced
that a lot of that had to do with the pottery that was displayed through
out. I hesitate to say this, because it could be interpreted to be a bit
flaky, but really, it was as if the presence of the pots drew down some very
strong energy into that space. Hopefully we'll get the pictures from the
evening up on a website soon so you all can see.

I think we might do this again next year!

So, now to go shopping for that house so we can offer transitional housing
to our homeless neighbors.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to all on this list who donated pieces.

Warmly,
Jonathan in DC

Hi all,

I meant to let all of you know earlier this month, but here's the news....

This year, 100 Bowls of Compassion netted $250,000. Yup, a quarter
million. For those of you new (ish) to the list, 100 Bowls of
Compassion started 6 years ago when I was Director of Social Services at
Miriam's Kitchen, a breakfast and case management program for the
homeless mentally ill here in DC. In 2001, with the help of many of you
on Clayart, 100 Bowls of Compassion was held in the atrium of the World
Bank.

I'm so proud and happy to report that it has become one of the premier
upscale gala events for non-profits here in DC. Because of how much
it's grown (we netted $80,000 our first year), we've had to move twice -
last year to the National Museum for Women in the Arts, and this year,
with over 600 people attending, in the National Building Museum. We
even got a spread in the Washingtonian magazine this year!

Anyway, hats off to all you for helping plant the seeds for this event
six years ago! It's very true that without Clayart, this event would
not have had a successful beginning. If I can get some pictures, I'll
post them on and let you know.

Warm thanks,
Jonathan in DC

Wow,Jonathan, give more details on why it worked do well? There must be
some of the finer points ,all those doing the same could benefit and learn
from?
