Jeff -
I hope you will not take offense from this, but I think the above is rather
sad. If you never saw anything new in CM, then your view must have been
either jaded or limited.

In my own experience, I am almost always very pleased with the content of
CM - the continuous supply of new ideas and information. I don't what you
were looking for in CM, but I have been a subscriber for 20 years, and have
been professionally involved in clay for over 30 years. I always look
forward to the next issue.
Best wishes -
- Vince

Sometimes it's worth reading all the articles, even if they seem like a
repeat. If I only find one new piece of information, anything, technique,
aesthetics, it can make a world of difference to my work.

Dear Jeff,

You have found that the wheel turns and things come around as the years =
pass by. One thing changes, mud from the hub spirals out and changes a =
bit as the cart brushes past the wayside. Your best first task is to =
contact all the Editors and find out what they want, what is the =
Editorial Philosophy or each journal. Seems like Clay Times is heavy on =
N. American stuff, Ceramics Art and Perception leans to the academic, CM =
a catch all, but mostly profiles but they do like to put in the recipes. =
PMI is earmarked for beginning and novice potters so I have been told.

I think the challenge when writing profiles is to omit the name of the =
subject after the heading and first paragraph except for the summary in =
the final few words. Having to read the same surname in every paragraph =
and twice in some is a tad boring. But to overcome such a weak style =
means hard work and demands the sort of composition skill which is in =
your personal kit of tools. Your Peers seem to recognise this, so my =
voice says "Go For It".

Wishing you all the best in this venture.

Best regards,

Ivor Lewis. Redhill, South Australia.

Vince,
No offense taken. After reading my posting I too also thought it was sad.
I'm not really sure WHAT I'm "looking for" I just know I am looking!
Take care
Jeff Longtin
