I have begun to input the first test data into the online database that Ron
Roy and Mel have talked about. I have an operational question for any who
said that they would spend some of their important studio time doing tests.

What is your preferred method for sending us the data:

- typing it into an email to Ron?
- entering it into a spreadsheet and attaching that to a note to Ron?
- directly entering it into an on-line FORM that would save it on-line in a
temp database that would not be publicly visible, but which you and Ron
could review and correct before it going online. The FORM would work with
any WWW browser.

Wes -

I think entering it directly into an online form would be easiest and cause
the least amount of administrative overhead. It would be nice if the final
version of the database has a "printer friendly" view so that clay people
can print out info on specific clay bodies.

Will the database have a way to add more information to a particular clay
test record, such as a new test or glaze information?

Will there be a review process for clay people to enter new tests and have
them posted?

Thanks for asking about our preferred method.

Rebecca

Wes, the form sounds great though it ought to have a "comments" section for
any info that doesn't fit within the parameters of the form.

To all of you who replied to my note re: preferred method, Thank you!!!

Some feedback. I have asked one tester who has already sent some data to=20
Ron to go back and look at the FORM and give me feedback.

As implemented, the FORM has two different fields to enter free form=20
information, A Short Description of the Clay (e.g. heavily grogged, white=20
firing stoneware.) and a Remarks entry to comment about the Test or the=20
Test Results (e.g. some bloating with cone 10 flat.) Is that good enough,=20
Craig?

The setup also has a full copy of the Test Procedures that Ron sent to=20
Clayart. When I have the time, I will add a definition for all of the=20
fields on the FORM so that you have a reminder of how any measurements are=
=20
to be done.

New question:

What search capabilities should be there for the "reviewed and approved"=
data?
Search by Manufacturer? e.g. Aardvark
Search by Clay Name? e.g. B-Mix
Search by Mfg recommended cone? e.g. ^10

Guided searches need to be planned. Free form searches are harder to=20
implement.
