Dear Don Hunt,
You said in a recent post <pyrometer indicated about 2200 when the top 11 dropped. >>
This is not an unusual observation. Unless the tip of your pyrometer is =
in contact with the one of your marker cones it is not unusual for there =
to be a difference. so your firing may h have been better than you =
thought. Also, don't forget to have a good look at your glazes and not =
variation of the same glaze from different places in the kiln.
One good test with a new kiln is to set a series of cone pats at =
strategic points around a kiln setting, high, low, near burners, near =
flue hole and so on. Do your normal or intended firing schedule and =
record the results pictorially. This will give you a better indication =
of what is happening. Do not forget to record your pyrometer temperature =
as well.
Nice to hear that things are going well,
Best regards,
Ivor Lewis, Redhill, South Australia.
