I have tried several recipes for a clear glaze, but what seems to fire =
on greenware does not seem very shiny and bright. Does anyone know of a =
good once fire glaze to be used on greenware and suitable for an =
elementary art classroom. I need help.

Hi,
I teach ceramics in a community center here in San Francisco. We do the one
firing deal. We put glazes on the greeenware and then apply the Mayco 2000
gloss Glaze.
We get a good effect. The colors come out nice and shiny. We fire at cone
06. I tried putting just a light coat and I get a semi matt result but the
kids put more than just one coat and they get a great result.
Ok, I hope that helps
Ana..

We have been producing our own Brush-on Glazes at Bath Potters for a
while now, using a standard (UK) leadless glaze as the base. We have
found that almost all earthenware Brush-on's will raw glaze very
happily, and give a good bright surface.
There is no great mystery about making your own, just getting the
proportions of CMC and anti-bacterial to glaze right. We have a leaflet
on the subject which I am going to put up on our website
;
proportions may need adjusting a bit, due to local variants, but the
basic principles remain.
