My September/October column in Clay Times deals with exactly this topic -
how to set yourself up to efficiently and effectively mix even large
quantity of clay for around $225. For small quantities, any drill with an
impeller mixer will do an excellent job. Dry mix the raw materials first,
put water equal to 35% of the dry materials weight in a bucket, add the dry
materials while mixing with the drill.

It is true that in most circumstances a cordless drill is no good for this
purpose - too slow, and runs down too quick. A good old corded mixer works
best, especially one of the better ones like Bosch, Makita, Hitachi, Dewalt,
Milwaukee, etc.
Best wishes -
