A couple of people have asked about spray starch. We buy spray starch
in the US to use when ironing to stiffen clothing. If you can't get
spray starch, try mixing starch and water and painting it on your pot.
Let it dry. It just makes a surface for the glaze to sink into. Then
spray layers of glaze, drying in between layers. I've never used it on
wet clay, however, to get wet clay to dry fast, or stiffen fast, I have
wedged a little grout into my clay. If you throw efficiently, and don't
alter your form after you've thrown it, this will stiffen your pots
quickly. They fire just fine.
