Hi Jennifer,
Hope you don't mind........I'm stealing your e-mail signature. It's
brilliant!
I ALWAYS check the urban legends site before forwarding anything. I even go
as far as to reply to the bogus messages with the link. And yet, my friends
are still sending me this crap. Just got a virus warning (hoax) and a Bill
Gates/free money email today! Amazing.....
Anyway, seems they need a bigger hint. I saw your signature and I love it.
So now it's attached to all of my emails.
Thanks for the great idea!

Never pass on an email warning without checking out this site for web hoaxes
and junk:

Feel free! These email warnings are a big pet peeve of mine.
Notice I added snopes.com to my sig. I usually check that as
well as Urban Legends. One of them gave a great explanation
about how the internet email campaign to boycott gas stations
that use Arab oil is not going to accomplish anything.

Take Care
Jennifer

Another great site for information about hoaxes is http://www.snopes.com.
The site has a search engine and is generally kept up to date... One of the
things that I admire most about this site is that as new information is
found about an urban legend, or corrections to earlier misinformation, the
pages are updated to reflect the more accurate picture. A word of warning,
however, since the write-ups on the different hoaxes, urban legends, and
rumors include as much information about their history and origins, and
because there is a lot of information available on the site, please don't
be surprised if you spend hours there reading through the site... (my
husband is on their update list so he doesn't miss any)

For info about virus myths and hoaxes try http://www.vmyths.com/ the essay
on False Authority Syndrome has applications in so many areas of life...
There are also essays on how to spot a virus hoax and how to reduce virus
hoaxes...

Best Wishes,

Andi.

Thank you Jennifer and Andi.
I'll be adding "snopes" to my bookmarks.
These things are a pet peeve of mine also. The virus warnings are not so
bad, people are well meaning. But the free money, missing children, chain
letters, bonsai kittens..........I mean come on! I get these things daily.
They're right there with spam in my book. I'm wearing out my delete key!
I've got my husband's whole office and a few friends checking this stuff out
now, but the rest of my acquaintances are still blindly forwarding it.
Maybe this signature will do the trick!
