To all those who have emailed me both on and off the list:

Yes, butane seems to work quite efficiently and is readily available (for=20
cooking dinner, lol). I have now bought a powerful Sievert-Primus Swedish=
=20
professional plumber's burner, complete with steel-meshed hose, regulator=20
for normal sized butane tanks, NO piezo electric automatic ignition, you=20
light it with a match. Sorry, I'm rather anti-automation these days. I=20
tested it on the mini-kiln since it can be adjusted from a small pilot up=
=20
to a tremendous blast, and all worked according to plan. Today I was=20
fully intending to build myself the flat-pack kiln, having over 5m of=20
Cerachem blanket left after redoing the Green Monster's lid, but=20
unfortunately we are having gale-force winds and a wicked sandstorm, making=
=20
it impossible to work outside without everything being blown away including=
=20
me. Instead, I modified the green monster: having already removed the=20
skinny pipe that was attached to the vent, I enlarged said vent so that I=20
can make it any size or shape using firebricks. I made the burner port=20
smaller so as to fit the nozzle of my burner with a half-inch space around=
=20
it. I adjusted the angle and height of said burner until I got what I=20
think is a decent flame pattern. I put a kiln shelf on 5" posts above the=
=20
burner, leaving all that part free from pots. I loaded up the rest of the=
=20
kiln with various experimental pieces, both glazed earthenware and unglazed=
=20
stoneware which should get bisqued. But, alas, because of the wind, I=20
couldn't light up the kiln. Maybe ma=F1ana, tomorrow. And on the first=
calm=20
day, I'll make the flat-pack. I'm not quite sure what bulldog clips are=20
called here in Spain, or if they are readily available. However, since the=
=20
kiln can just stay put in the patio, I suppose I could use use wire to sew=
=20
the walls together. It won't be big ; about 45cm x 45cm x 45cm, so I=20
should be able to carry it around and store it inside if=20
necessary. Nowadays I can put a kiln on my kitchen counter if I wish and=20
nobody cares! Being single again certainly has its compensations.

Thank you all,

Fran=E7oise in hot, windy southern Spain.
