Replace the thermacouple and go from there. I don't know why the tech
folks at Olympic didn't suggest that to begin with if you are unable to get
the flame going. Also, check the solenoid that the thermacouple is connected
to and be certain that it is infact opening when the thermacouple "tells" it
to do so {the pilot is lite.)

I purchased a new gas/raku kiln from Olympic several months ago. I've been
trying since then to get the thing firing! I've been on the phone Olympic
for hours. It has three burners across the bottom. I have not been able to
keep the ignition bar lit in order to get the burners going. The thermal
couple is in the exact place it should be. I've made every adjustment they
suggested.
The gas company installed it to their (Olympics) exact specifications and
have come out to triple check it.
This is the kiln that also fires to cone 10....the drum cranks up.
Does anyone have any ideas for me to try? They want to send me a new
thermal
couple....for me to disconnect the old one and install the new one.... Does
anybody else have this kiln? Help Please..
Thanks

The school has had one of these kilns for a year or so. No problems
with it. It does indeed sound like you have a faulty thermocouple.
Put in a new one. Always try the simplest fix first, when you are
not sure of the problem.

I had the same problem with my Olympic Downdraft, and
was also told to make adjustments. I don't know if
they're set up the same way, but I have these red
buttone that I have to press, then light, then hold
them for around a minute. No matter how long I held
them down, though, the flame would go out! Aaaargh!
Finally, I decided to see what would happen if I
released the button extremely slowly, and it worked!
No problems with it ever again! Let me know if this
trick does anything for you. They may not even have
similar controls at all, but when I called Olympic, I
also was told to adjust EVERYTHING, and no one thought
to tell me to ease up slowly. Hope this works for you!

I am embarrassed to say I limped along with my Olympic kiln for at least =
a year before I finally talked with Robert(?) Haugen directly, and he =
figured out my problem was simply that I was using an electric kiln =
shelf on the bottom level instead of the correctly sized round shelf I =
needed for proper circulation. I don't have the same kiln you have, but =
in case anyone else has trouble keeping the flames connected to the =
burner tips when the gas is turned up, this may be your problem.
