I'm looking to get some advice on venting my kiln room. I'm firing an Olsen
24 c.f. updraft. It's in an end bay of a metal building 12' wide by 24' long
with the kiln at one end and a garage door at the other end. I have a window
fan drawing air out on the outer wall but there's alot of heat building up
at the ceiling and the interior wall gets pretty hot near the Kiln. I've
been firing it for over a year and haven't had any problems yet but I'd like
to avoid any in the future. I'm thinking of putting an exhaust fan behind
the kiln in the wall, were it meets the ceiling (maybe one on each side of
the kiln) or an attic fan in the ceiling. Do you think this will help avoid
the possibility of fire and how much do you think this will affect my
reduction?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Kris,
Yes I have had some experience with this kind of set up - yes - add the fan
or better still fans - but you have to understand - you may have to more a
lot of air to be sure there is no build up of heat or carbon monoxide so
"little" fans may not do the job. I suggest you use a carbon monoxide
detector to find out if whatever you decide to use is working properly -
remember - CO is your first concern - and fire is a close second.
When venting outside also remember - if the wind is blowing against the fan
from outside - any venting will be diminished relative to how strong the
wind is.
