Hi folks;
We we will be headed to Bar Harbor at the last week in July. Besides
enjoying biking and walking etc. we would like to see some pots. Any
suggestions as to where to go in the area.
Thanks much,
Dorothy Weber

On the main street in Bar Harbor is an Island Artisans' shop, which cooperatively displays the work of many VERY good artists in the area, including Carol Beal's pottery (among other potters).
BUT, if you have a car, take the time to drive off Mt. Desert Island, through Ellsworth, to the next peninsula -- toward Blue Hill, Deer Isle, Stonington. This peninsula is known for its population of artists, including many wonderful potters. My favorite, and a Must-See in my opinion, is Mark Bell, about 1-1/2 mi. beyond Blue Hill; absolutely beautiful porcelain functional and art work -- and Mark is a wonderful, warm person. (Tell him I sent you). The trip to Blue Hill from Bar Harbor could take about 45 minute to an hour, but would be worth it. When I am staying in Bar Harbor (my annual pilgrimage) I plan a whole day to "do" the Blue Hill/Deer Isle/Stonington peninsula.
There you will find as well the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts which is a beautiful setting for many summer institutes in the arts. They will do tours and have a weekly exhibit of student and instructor work. Heavenly. (call first to get their schedule).
Email me off list if you want to "chat" about any specifics.

Go to Salt Box Pottery, south of Rockland & north of Portland. It is
wonderful!
