The lawyers / legislators are concerned about competition for their =
elected office.
Ferrets are carnivorous, aggressive and without social morals...and can =
revert back to the wild when they smell blood, or hear sirens.=20
But...ferrets have respect for their interns and won't have them =
eliminated. Ferrets are also cuter, so it's not the kind of competition =
politicians want.=20

For what it's worth, this is the quote from California Research Bureau =
of the California State Library on why ferrets aren't allowed in CA:
"Three primary points have been raised by the California Department of =
Fish and Game in "Department of Fish and Game Ferret Fact Sheet, March =
25, 1994."3 Views expressed in this fact sheet may be summarized as =
follows:4
1.. Ferrets may bite (and perhaps otherwise attack), and may be =
especially prone to bite or scratch children and infants.=20
2.. There is no proven vaccine against rabies in ferrets.=20
3.. Ferrets may threaten native wildlife"
I don't have an opinion one way or the other. I'm not personally fond =
of the little critters since I once had a neighbor with one and it could =
only be handled with gloves that the ferret couldn't bite through. Not =
my idea of an ideal house pet, but each to his own.
