I want to ask a question here Tony. You say "firing a load of carbon
trap". I'm fairly sure you don't have an entire load of *only* shino, so
maybe you would expound on what other glazes you have in this type of
firing, and also what other types of cone ten firings you are doing these
days? I have gotten pretty comfortable with firing carbon traps, and had
some fun doing wax resist ala Malcolm Davis. Went as far as getting some
pretty intense blacks, and have been pulling back on the reduction (no
oxyprobe, flying by the seat of my pyrometer and gas pressure gauge here),
to see how it affects my glazes. Also I don't know if you've mentioned do
you fire to a full cone 10? higher? I have also played around with firing
just barely to cone 9, all the way up past 11, to see what that does with
the glazes, and it's always, of course, interesting.

Anyway, in the interest of helping me tune in firings, I'd love to have
just a teensy more info if you don't mind :-)

Thanks,
Mishy

Mishy: You're a non-believer. I have fired every single gas firing of the
past two years of only one glaze- Malcolm Davis #3 Shino. That would be over
60 firings. We use four different slips underneath for all the colours of
the rainbow. I am now using another shino and blending it 50/50 to give me a
third carbon trap.. during glazing yesterday Sheila said I'm really
confused with these three glazes. It's one too many!
I've tried to exclaim the virtues of narrowing your selection for years on
clayart. Joyce of course, is the student I've had to sit in the corner with
her gum on her nose.
Don't use any other glazes. Sorry!!!!!
Cheers,
Tony

I distinctly recall you blasting Tom Buck here on clayart, not too long ago
(in a loving sort of way) when he claimed you can't fire shino and celadon
in the same firing successfully. I am sure I remember you saying something
about having fired celadons together with shinos, without a
problem... soooooo... what exactly is it I am not supposed to believe?
