Visited new China residency center.
I just visited a new ceramics residency program in China. It is a Ming
Dynasty preservation project in ZhuJiaJiao, “Venice of Shanghai”. ZhuJiaJiao
Art Center is at a Ming preservation site is full of restored architecture.
Included is a Buddha Temple being reconstructed, an impressive gate, a
teahouse with moat and little meditation pavilion, exhibition and gallery
building, covered water well and stone relief sculptures all over the place.
There are 2 studio buildings, a new and spotless 2-storey dormitory, 4 gas
and 3 wood kilns. Tens of thousands of trees have been planted on the site.
There is easy access to downtown Shanghai and the Shanghai Museum and Art
College. Next door is the fascinating Ming Dynasty canal town of Zhujiajiao
and its numerous bridges and narrow streets with waterside restaurants. We
spent a Mediterranean afternoon at a waterside restaurant and watched the
river boats to by. ZhuJiaJiao Art Center has a website at www.zhujiajiao.org
with information and great pictures of the center.

I would like to find out more about a possible residency for
September-November 2002. Is it too late to apply? Are there any requirements
for experience and education?
