Hi Clayarters:
Can someone tell me a good source for those wonderful expensive light
shelves for kilns? Just a weakling woman and would love not to helft
around those heavy suckers...

Thanks!
Susan

Hey Susan,
You want Smith-Sharpe Fire Brick Supply,
1-866-545-6743 or www.kilnshelf.com. The Advancer is
what you want, and at a whopping
close-to-two-hundred-smackaroos, they are pretty
expensive, but I just bought the regular kind, and
absolutely regret it. I literally have to crawl into
my kiln, squat (not fun in 100% humidity with tight
jeans on), and then say a few quick prayers as I try
my best not to lose my grip and tumble over. This
could be a schtick on Saturday Night Live, and I
always make sure to load when no one else is around.
I've used the advancer before, and, man, it would
probably cut my loading time in half to have them.
Plus they're easy to clean. Glaze nearly wipes off!
Even if you only get two or four, for the top, you
will want to smooch them every time you use them!

Say, Susan;

Give Dona a call (866-545-6743) at Smith-Sharpe Firebrick
Supply in Minneapolis. She co-ordinates group buys of Advancer
shelves in several sizes to get everyone the best price. I have been
using those and the more expensive Crystar for twelve years with
great results. I just spread Alumina oxide in a thin layer over the
shelf instead of kiln wash. Check out
http://www.murrow.biz/hank/kiln-and-tools.htm for a look at my posts
which permit removing shelves independently of the stack.

Cheers, Hank

WHO WANTS TO BUY KILN SHELVES IN THE MN OR WI AREA? The more we buy the
more we save. I talked with Donna some weeks back as I was looking at the
advancers and she said if you order 10, the price drops to $130 per shelf.
Now I'm thinking the more people go in on it the cheaper it is.

Thank you.
