Have a ? about your sawdust kiln. I have been saving hardwood sawdust from a local woodworking shop . It is very dry and has some planer shavings. I have not heard of cone 12 with sawdust could you tell me a little about your kiln.
Thanks,

We fired the salt/sawdust kiln in a pouring rain yesterday. Got
cone 12 in seven hours and were soaked with rain water rather than
sweat for a change. The firing was a little dark, but the exciting
news is that I tested a slip from my brother's mine in Colorado. It
turned out a beautiful tenmoku, metallic and almost black. I have
to go out and collect a larger sample now because my students
are insisting on having it for a glaze.
I hate that. I will have to drive out to Colorado, spend some time
digging and prospecting at high elevations, take clay friends to the
site so they can get a free glaze, and probably even broil some
trout for them, which of course I will have to go out and catch. Life
is so hard.
Merrie and Bill Boerner from Mississippi, and Tim Taunton from
Georgia will be joining us. They will probably want to hike and fish
and collect minerals and hangout in the evenings and smoke cigars
on the porch.
I am installing a wood fired hot-tub and a small deck this year.
Come and join us if you can, between July 10 and 30. You can
find the place on Mapquest by looking up Lake Annella, CO. It is
at the junction of forest roads 380 and 243 between Summitville
and Platoro. Bring food, drink and sleeping bags, and stay a few
days. The closest Walmart is over fifty miles away.
E-mail me before next Wednesday if you want us to leave a light
on for you.

We can get to cone 14 if we want. The burner design is in Nils
Lou's book and soon will be published in the NCECA Journal. Like
I say I have a mailout. Send me a SASE.
